Batch Resizing Photos without Photoshop

Workflow, Tips

I’m sure this is a common problem. A client has many photos that need to be uploaded somewhere but they only have extremely high resolution images.

You can use Photoshop to resize a bunch of photos using actions and what not, but you don’t want to tell your client to buy Photoshop just for that.

The solution: Preview.app

  • Fire up Preview
  • Select all your photos (open up the folder, press ⌘+A)
  • Drag them into the Preview dock app. They should all open up in the sidebar.
  • Again, use ⌘+A to select all the photos.
  • Go to Tools > Adjust Size...
  • Choose the size you’d like and click OK
  • Go to File > Export Selected Images...
  • Choose the folder you want to save the resized photos to and click Choose
  • You’re done
